ROOTS

The Fashion Magazine at Marist began as a lookbook produced by merchandising students alongside the college's annual Silver Needle Runway Show, displaying the final collections of the fashion program's graduating design students. In the spring of 2014 the direction of the book shifted dramatically, chasing daring new concepts in photography and design and including written content. Suddenly, the lookbook became a platform for showcasing more dynamic student work, commenting on the industry and showcasing the voices and experiences of the fashion department at Marist College. This first volume redefined the standard for the publication, and led to the establishment of a special project class to exclusively dedicate the time and talent necessary to continue the impressive reflection of the program and students within. Today, the Fashion Magazine at Marist is directed and composed by a fresh group of students annually, who utilize the undergraduate and professional resources of their department to produce a thoughtful, informed, an intriguing body of work that breaks past what is expected, and finds itself among other premiere independent publications distributed worldwide.
